			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There is most certainly nothing new about exercise and the quest for physical fitness, but there are some new machines that can aid us in our quest. One such piece of exercise equipment that has burst onto the scene recently is the elliptical treadmill. One might say that it is a natural evolution from the traditional treadmill.</p>
<p>There are some fundamental differences between the traditional treadmill and an elliptical treadmill, otherwise known as an elliptical trainer, and we are going to discuss those differences here.</p>
<p>While treadmills do offer padding to various degrees on the surface, or belt, the individual can still absorb substantial stress on their bones and joints when using them. That is where an elliptical trainer differs from the treadmill. The elliptical trainer removes all the stress and strain that the body otherwise feels and provides a more fluid motion.</p>
<p>Unlike a treadmill, an elliptical chamber has pedal-like footpads that the individual places their feet into. These pedals then move in a long and fluent motion, back and forth while also moving slightly up and down.</p>
<p>The end affect is an excellent workout for the muscles, tendons and cardiovascular system, while sparing the knees, ankles and feet from that jarring stress that has become all too familiar to individuals that exercise on hard surfaces.</p>
<p>It is also possible to buy an elliptical treadmill that will simultaneously give your upper body a workout as well. This is achieved by handrails that stick out from the machine and allow the individual to move their arms back and forth. The net effect is both an upper and lower body workout. Efficiency at its finest.</p>
