College Students Health Insurance

The good old college days. I remember them well. One thing I was not concerned about was college students health insurance, but looking back now I should’ve been. It is important to have health insurance for college student because you never know what kind of curves life is going to throw you.

For anyone that is interested in learning about college students health insurance I first direct them to their college’s website. A quick search using your private student ID and information will show you that health insurance for college student is often times deducted from your tuition payment, unless you specifically request otherwise.

And many cases you don’t even realize that you are paying for it, but you are. Most student insurance plans include dental coverage as well. Now you do not have to take the colleges health insurance plan if you don’t want to. If you are covered through an employer or by your family plan then you really shouldn’t pay for something you already have.

It is important to understand that college sponsored health plans are usually limited in their coverage. The cost for these programs are not that great and like anything else, you get what you pay for.

Of course, that is a bit of a generalization because there are literally hundreds of different plans throughout the thousands of colleges and universities in the United States.

It is important that you go to the student services center of your college and inquire about the coverage options that are available. Some important questions to ask include what options of healthcare providers and healthcare services are available.

Other issues that you will want to inquire about include when coverage begins and when it ends, what are the policy terms with regards to pre-existing conditions and what type of plans are available to choose from.

College students health insurance can come in many forms including an HMO, PPO or EPO. Health insurance for college student is often ignored because he or she is seemingly in the prime of their life and very healthy. That is a foolish mistake and can come back to haunt you.
